Maggiano’s Little Italy opened the doors of its first location on the corners of Clark Street and Grand Avenue in Chicago, Illinois November 11, 1991. What happened next, as they say, is history.
The restaurant was successful from the very beginning, with eager diners sometimes waiting hours for an opportunity to dine family-style. The portions of Italian–American cuisine were large, reminiscent of a Sunday night visit to their grandmother’s house, or as they say in Italy, nonna’s casa! The recipes were simple, authentic classics, many of them coaxed out of Italian grandmothers, mothers, and aunts whose ideas of a recipe were a pinch of this and a sprinkle of that. With some trial and error, the chefs celebrated the birth of many of Maggiano’s signature dishes.
With a successful opening at the Clark and Grand location, a second restaurant was opened in Oak Brook, Illinois and two years later in Skokie, Illinois. The decision to open a restaurant outside of Illinois was made, and in 1994 Maggiano’s Little Italy opened in McLean, Virginia at Tyson’s Corner Galleria II. As Tyson’s Corner took off, it became obvious that Maggiano’s had great potential to succeed nationally. With that in mind, Brinker International purchased Maggiano’s Little Italy from Rich Melman of Lettuce Entertain you in 1995. Since then, Brinker has grown Maggiano’s from four locations in Illinois to numerous locations across the country.

Most Allergy-Friendly Chain in America '17, '18
We could not have had a better experience dining at Maggianos last night. We eat out all the time as a family, but never with our 8 year old Ellie, who has multiple anaphylactic food allergies. In fact, she has never eaten out at a restaurant ever until last night! We called in advance to see if it might be possible to bring Ellie and spoke to a manager named Mark. He was incredible. It is because of him that we came in and felt as comfortable as we did. He talked us through the way Maggianos handles food allergies to avoid cross contamination & was extremely kind and patient in answering all of our questions. Once we got there, Mark introduced us to our server, Abel, and Chef Zeb. Both were great. Abel was extremely friendly, attentive, fun with all our kids and went out of his way to make us feel safe. Chef Zeb was incredible; he not only took the time to answer all of our questions (and we had a lot of them!) he spent time with Ellie, making her change from scared to excited about her first meal out. He sat down at the table and reassured her about the whole process. Thank you to the whole team for making last night possible.
