about this business

The center began in 2006 under the leadership of Dr. Rev. Thich Hang Dat, a religious leader and a Buddhist professor at Indiana University Southeast and University of Houston. Due to the spiritual demand and inquiry of the local community, in 2016 the center acquired 15.5 acres of land, and it started to construct a new building in the spring of 2018 and finish the project in summer of 2019. With the financial supports from nonprofit organizations, volunteers, donors, and adherents, the newly completed 14,000 square foot temple is now the largest Buddhist temple in the Midwest. This landmark facility is a unique experience in collaboration with both eastern and western cultures.
Alongside the newly established temple, Buddhism will become more accessible to the spiritual seekers and general public in Louisville and its vicinity. With a public temple open to all, it offers spiritual, secular, and social programs on a weekly and seasonal basis. Its motto: “A Compassionate Mind, a Peaceful Life” expresses the vision of living the transformative teachings of the Buddha in a contemporary context, integrating contemplative teachings into everyday life, and building meaningful communities by providing a welcoming and educational space in Louisville. Having the practical, universal, and transcendental approaches to work with others, we welcome all diverse groups and appreciate those who strongly support peace and a sense of community.
