Oysters for $1 and Miller High Life drafts $2
Three local restauranteurs, Brienne Postema, Mike Wagner, and Tom Pugh, a.k.a. “The Three Amigos,” are joining forces to bring the flavors of South Carolina lowcountry to the Grand Rapids market.
Carolina Lowcountry Kitchen began while looking for a new concept to bring to the Grand Rapids area. The Three Amigos found some southern-style lowcountry recipes and felt it would go over well in Grand Rapids. In 2016 they traveled to Charleston South Carolina for research. The team loved the foods and couldn’t wait to build on the concept and bring those flavors to their hometown. Carolina Lowcountry Kitchen was born out of a love of oysters, fresh fish, and laidback foods of the South Carolina coast.
Carolina boasts a full-service bar with draught and bottled beer, wine and spirits with an emphasis on craft cocktails, communal punches, wine and ice cream drinks such as Grasshoppers and Hummers.
Lowcountry is Southern fare from the coastal regions of South Carolina and Georgia with influences from other southern areas, such as New Orleans. The menu highlights some of those amazing flavors using traditional ingredients, heritage grains, and top quality meats and seafood while adding a little Michigan flare. Menu selections include raw and grilled oysters, shrimp, gumbo, salads, burgers, sweet tea grilled and buttermilk fried chicken, and select steaks.
Awesome service, our server was very personable and helpful. The hushpuppies were a great start and we had the poutine as an app, all of which we loved. I got the chicken biscuits and grits and it was fantastic! The boyfriend got the fried chicken platter and it was insanely huge, we both had leftovers for the next day. I felt it was reasonably priced for how much food we got. Only complaint, part way through dinner they dimmed the already limited lighting and it made it hard to see our food. We will definitely be back, so many great menu items and we would love a new local brunch spot! -Celeste S
Great, friendly staff. Hushpuppies served as an appetizer was just thst...a teaser for the great food to come! We had a small birthday celebration and they allowed me to drop off flowers and a cake earlier in the day. When we arrived the flowers were set on the table and the cake brought out, with candles they added themselves, after our meal was finished. Everything was perfect! 5 stars and 2 thumbs up!! -Fran C
We tried Carolina Lowcountry Kitchen last night, and it was phenomenal. The service was impeccable, the food was on point (the shrimp and grits and fried chicken... OMG!) and the atmosphere was beautiful. HIGHLY RECOMMEND! Also, don’t leave without trying the biscuits and honey butter - it’s basically like heaven in your mouth. A crispy outside, and a moist tender biscuit inside. -Haley K
