Mentoring All Americans for Leadership (MAAFL) is based upon a scholarly research project, which Dr. Wanda Taylor conducted during her doctoral studies at the University of Phoenix, titled Mentoring African American Women for Leadership (2003). The research design focused on the career aspirations of African American women and minorities; a pre-test was administered prior to the research training program and a post-test was conducted afterwards (the test asked the questions based on life-goals, career goals, education, peer coaching and mentoring). The results revealed a positive overall learning increase of 55% and supported the fact that the Career Development Leadership Program would increase the career aspirations and psychosocial life-skills of African Americans and minorities. Dr. Taylor has designed the Career Development Leadership Program to include all minority races, cultures, and ages; however, no one is turned away from receiving its services. The target audience for the leadership program are the at-risk youths, homeless victims, domestic violence victims, and individuals who are in transition. Because the program is so unique, many organizations throughout the Phoenix Metropolitan area seek its services: Beverlyn Marshall, a prior MAAFL Board Member, who was then the Program Director for St. Mary's Food Bank Community Kitchen, said "We have a program similar to the Career Development Leadership Program, but nothing that goes as deep; the participants leave your workshops, highly motivated."MAAFL currently has a Board of Directors of 10 members who represent the communities in which they serve: Michael Williams, Chairman; Shirley Butler, Vice Chairman; Lyda Harris, Vice Chairman; Juanita Stafford, Treasurer; and Bessie Ward, Secretary. Board meetings are held quarterly where all decisions for workshops, grants, etc. are made. MAAFL governs itself by four core values which spells out RICH: Reliability and Respect, Integrity, Caring, and Honesty. Qualified trainers for the workshops include the following individuals: Dr. Wanda Taylor, Director of Trainer; Lyda Harris, Assistant Trainer; Shirley Butler, Assistant Trainer, Ledis Brooks, Volunteer trainer; and Anna Jones, Volunteer Trainer. Dr. Wanda Taylor earned her Doctor of Management in Organizational Leadership at the University of Phoenix in Phoenix, Arizona. She holds the following degrees: Bachelor of Science in Business Management, Master of Arts in Organizational Management, and Doctor of Management in Organizational Leadership. These degrees were obtained at the University of Phoenix, in Phoenix, Arizona. She is a former professor for the Western International University (WIU) and South Mountain Community College; she currently teaches part-time in the Phoenix Unified High School District and the Peoria Unified School District. Lyda Harris holds a Masters Degree in Education, a Bachelor's Degree in Public Affairs (both from the Arizona State University); Shirley Butler is a Teen Youth Coordinator at the City of Phoenix Housing Department; Ledis Brooks is a retired accountant and Anna Jones is a professional caregiver.
