All kids run free in the Totally 80's 1mile Fun Run as part of Fall Fest in Candler Park
2015 Fall Fest in Candler Park, which takes place on October 3rd and 4th. (www.fallfest.candlerpark.org). With this year’s theme centered on “Something for Everyone,” the annual festival, now in its’ 15th year, promises more activities, attractions and entertainment than ever before.
To provide two days of fun for everyone, CPNO has partnered with a variety of new sponsors, businesses and vendors who are eager to add to the festival experience. The Edgewood Retail Center located on Moreland is one of them. Named “Kidlandia,” this year’s kids zone is being booked as a land where children can create, explore, and play. Activities will include: interactive science experiments with the “Professor” from the Atlanta Children’s Museum,” building projects with representative from Lowes Building Supplies and Point 3 basketball with several Atlanta Hawks players. It will also feature a “Creation Station”, live licensed Disney characters, face and chalk hair painting, kids products for sale, and a variety of bouncy “jumpies” where kids can jump all day for $5 with the proceeds going directly to the Mary Lin Educational Foundation.
Another new festival partner this year, is the Indie Craft Experience (ICE) http://www.ice-atlanta.com whose home studio is located in Candler Park. The organization, which puts on two major indie craft markets each year, is working with the festival’s Artist Market to attract a new group of unique craft and vintage art vendors who will be selling their products alongside other classic fine art artists. A preview of some of the unique crafts and art products for sale are showcased on the newly designed festival website. Limited booth space is still available.
To encourage festival goers to kick up their heels, this year’s “danceable” music offerings, eclectic and diverse. Saturday’s featured entertainment includes: “Gringo Star,” (Atlanta Indie darlings, “Smithsonian” (The Smiths tribute band) and “Clashinista” (The Clash tribute band). Sunday’s highlights include Blair Crimmins & The Hookers” (ragtime and New Orleans style jazz) and “Bogey and the Viceroy” (classic soul, retro rock/pop, and today’s chart-toppers). Throughout the weekend, a variety of bands including “Jug Rag Time Band”, “Webster”, “Guru Fish”, “Squirrel Heads”, and “4th Ward A.K.O.” will play. The complete list of participating food trucks and vendors are available on the website but, a few include “Gotta Have it”, “King of Pops”, “Mixd up”, “Nana G’s Chicken & Waffles”, Tex’s Tacos”, “Queen of Cream”, and “Palookaville’s Corndog Wagon.” Beverage vendors will also expand their offerings with craft beers, a variety of wine selections, non-alcoholic drinks, and some special offerings just for kids.
Each year, Fall Fest of Candler Park also features an annual 5K Run and a self guided Tour of Homes. This year a new 1K Run (or walk) has been added to give “all ages” an opportunity to run, walk or stroll to the finish line. Sponsored by another new partner, Piedmont Healthcare’s #livingbetter, participants will receive a t-shirt and health focused goodies at the completion of the race. Registration is currently open on the festival website and individuals, businesses and entire families are encouraged to sign up as soon as possible.
And not to be missed this year, The Annual Tour of Homes will also include a new addition. Visitors will not only be able to tour some of Candler Park’s distinct homes, but they will be able to see some of their unique tree houses as well. Participating home and tree house styles include a Craftsman complete with front porch and porch swing, Country-Farm Style and an ultra-modern. Part of the self-guided tour will also include some of Candler Park’s public spaces which include the communal Mulberry Fields, the Helium Arts Center & Epworth Art Center.
